TEST YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE TODAY

Blood Pressure Test

Everyone has blood pressure. It indicates the amount of work required for your heart to pump blood around the body. Two numbers measure your blood pressure level.

What is blood pressure?

There are two readings when measuring blood pressure. The top reading is called systolic pressure, this is when the pressure is at its highest as your heart muscle squeezes out the blood from your heart.

The bottom reading is called diastolic pressure, this is when your heart relaxes, which allows the blood to flow back into your heart.

Average blood pressure is usually about 120 (systolic) over 80 (diastolic). The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get it measured as most people with high blood pressure will not notice any symptoms.

How does a blood pressure test work?

The screening is a quick process, whereby a cuff is attached to your arm and measures the flow of blood. We then interpret the information given out by the machine.

Why is a blood pressure test important?

High blood pressure (also called hypertension) causes damage to the blood vessels and the heart.

If untreated, this damage progresses over time and may result in a stroke or a heart attack. High blood pressure also increases the risk of damage to the blood vessels in your kidneys and eyes.
